Just finished some work, was heating up my dinner - the last of the leftover stew monstrosity with some chopped spinach, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder and a bit of salt added for extra oomph - and that left me at a bit of a loss for what to do.
The heating time was not enough to sit back down and watch something on the computer, for instance, or to do more work. Yet, it was too long just to sit or stand around and pretend to be a lump.
I don't know what I had in mind, when I stood up, but, what happened was that I walked down the hallway, and as I walked I began singing a song - improv style- and then I was in the back room, in front of the mirror, doing some marching in place.
The kind of marching I was doing involved exaggerated arm and shoulder movements, and a definite emphasis on my hip swing. Plus, I threw in a few moments of alternating leg to elbow lifts, which is simply marching, where you bring one leg a bit higher and try to touch your opposite elbow, while your elbow is going a bit lower and trying to touch your knee.
No actual knees or elbows were harmed, or even touched, during this exercise, but, it felt good to do it. No pain. It was rather vigorous and had me out of breath, though not so much that I couldn't keep singing, in short order.
The microwave was set to three minutes and I marched a few seconds past that. So, I'm guessing, all told, it was about 2 minutes 45 seconds of brisk movement, some movements being brisker than others.
A far cry from the torture of an aerobics class, but, far more than I normally would have done on any day in the last few months. So, this is a successful exercise venture, indeed.
By the way, I read something that said that it was found that small spurts of exercise work better than a full blown, intense workout, anyway, as far as losing weight. Now, obviously, they do not work as well for endurance, but, that is a different matter.
For now, considering my size, health issues, etc. small spurts of exercise are just what I need.
And, in case you were wondering, I did try it, in the past, too. My mom has a recumbent exercise bike, in her living room, so that she can jump on it and pedal for a bit, at odd times.
So, one day, and this was when I was drinking Noni juice or taking L-Arginine and L-Orthinine supplements, I decided to start doing it, as well. It was, like today, just one of those things that sounded good at the time. Maybe it was an answer to my prayer or maybe it was just the sheer joy of using one's body, when one is not in constant pain.
Whatever the case, I hopped on and rode for a wee few minutes. And, after a few days of doing it only once or twice a day, I started getting where I wanted to do it more often. So, then, me and Mom, who normally just sat there and watched movies, would stop the shows every 15 minutes or so, and take a toodle on the bike for a few minutes each, go to the restroom if needed, let the animals in or out, etc.
I did lose a lot of weight, during that time. Then, I got stressed out, ill, interrupted, went off the supplements, etc.
For your edification, and possible education, the Noni juice and supplements mentioned did help me, but, like many other things, I simply couldn't afford to keep using them.
